Avocet Cabinet

This is the second of a pair of (non-matching) bedside cabinets that were commissioned following my 'All Washed Up' exhibition at the end of 2019. The specified feature for this cabinet was the avocet design that I once used for the front panel of a chest.
The two sides were formed from a pair of heavily fissured lengths of driftwood. I'm not sure what the wood is but it required a lot of wire-brushing and sanding.
Avocets feed on invertebrates in shallow water with a sweeping motion of their distinctive up-curved bills... hence the small sea-slater which I have carved into the centre of the door.

Approximate height 24 inches, width 20 inches and depth 17 inches.
