This lump of driftwood oak was almost left where I found it by the side of the creek, but I decided to bring it home for firewood.
The idea of carving a primitive head came to me when I was looking around for something to carve. The shape of the original lump suggested a tall Mohican hairdo but the wood was too 'splintery' so he had a haircut. I then took a blow-torch to it to both blacken the hair and remove inaccessible splinters. Still dissatisfied with it, I hammered some fencing staples into his ears.
I'm still not completely happy with it, he might have a change of head-shape and more ironware in his face. This sort of mutation seems somehow appropriate in this case.
