Fossil skeleton

I found this piece of iron-blackened oak half-submerged in the mud of Oare Creek. The curved shape and long square nails suggest that it was once a rib in the hull of a wooden boat.
The carved skeleton is loosely based on a picture of a fossil of the oldest known reptile according to my 'Hamlyn guide to prehistoric life'.

approx. width 33 inches
