Standing at roughly five feet in height, these free-standing shelves would be ideal as an alcove book-case. The top is 24 inches wide while the inside shelf-width is 18 inches. Shelf-depth is 7 inches.
The two sides were taken from a 10ft length of driftwood which I found lying, sodden, in the mud of Oare Creek. I just managed to keep this heavy length of timber from splitting in two as I wheeled it back to my workshop, balanced on top of a bicycle. Lengths of wood such as this take a long time to dry and many filthy hours to clean up, first with a wire-brush and then with lots of abrasive paper. The result, however, is well worth the effort.
